The Mangiapepe sandwich bar is a household name in Florence and is one of the most recommended places in the city to taste the local produce. The fantastic sandwiches include a wide variety of toppings – fresh vegetables, cheeses, delicate fish and sausages, handmade rolls and bread (including gluten-free), and more.
The bar, run by a charming local guy named Daniel, also serves regional dishes such as a cheese board, sausages with local olives, wonderfully fragrant and delicious spreads, panini stuffed with goodies, bruschetta, and fresh and colorful salads.
The place is also known for its affordable prices, which offer extremely high value for money: all sandwiches cost only 5 euros, the cheese and sausage platters start at 10 euros for one diner, and a platter for 4 people costs 35 euros. Bruschetta prices range from €2.50 to €3.50, and salads cost €5.
Mangiapepe is not a big bar and only has about 12 seats. It is highly recommended to make a reservation in advance and arrive hungrily!
The place is open 6 days a week (on Mondays, it is closed) and operates from 12:30 until late at night, with a 4-hour break between 3:45 and 7:30 p.m. It is highly recommended to stop there for lunch or dinner between one attraction and another in the old city of Florence. The bar is a short walk from the Great Synagogue of Florence, the Church of St. Ambrogio, and the Basilica of Santa Croce.
