Have you already been to Rome, Milan and maybe also to the beautiful Florence? If so, it is not surprising that this time you chose to dedicate your trip to Italy to the south, and you can certainly understand why this time you found yourself buying a plane ticket to Naples. It’s not for nothing that we all know the phrase: “See Naples and die” (Vedi Napoli e poi muori). The truth is that if your goal is to travel only through the beautiful and special streets of Naples, you don’t really need a rental car. You can get around here on foot and in any other way that includes different types of public transportation. On the other hand, if you want to enrich your trip even more, get out of Naples itself and see different areas around it, the correct and best way to do this is with the help of a rental car. That’s why it’s good to know that you can pick up your rental car already at the Naples airport. A second option is to pick it up from the city, after you finish your trip there and want to spread your wings to the southern region.
First, assume that there are quite a few companies that offer rental cars today, and the differences between them can be mainly in the price. At the same time, you should also take into account the different opinions of the other tourists regarding each car rental company. If a certain company you were thinking of contacting actually received a low score from the surfers, it is of course better to choose another company with a higher score. Sometimes the service and reliability of the company are just as important as the vehicle itself. You should also pay attention to some important details when you rent a car, beyond the question of whether you want a large or small car. First, do you prefer it to be an automatic or a manual vehicle? Because we must not forget that in Europe, almost everywhere, the default is actually a car with a manual transmission. Second, it is highly recommended (and even mandatory) to take out comprehensive car insurance, because even though it will significantly increase the rental price, it will give you peace of mind and help in any situation. You are traveling to a foreign country, and although you may have already been in Italy and even driven there, you are still only tourists. Therefore, if you don’t want to get involved in unpleasant situations, or end up in a situation where the trip costs you ten times more than you planned, just because you didn’t have insurance for the rental car – it’s very good that you don’t skimp on this section.
Good that you asked. The Bay of Naples area is one of the most beautiful areas in all of Italy, so there are many, many interesting places to see in this area. The first option, which is considered particularly attractive and appealing to tourists from all over the world, is to travel to the island of Capri. The only way to get to this island is to get on a ferry, and of course you can also get on it with your rental car so there is nothing to worry about. The trip here can be a daily trip of several hours, and it is definitely worth the investment because the place is particularly beautiful.
If you leave the city of Naples and drive only about 30 km south, you will reach a beautiful and special peninsula called Sorrento. Here you can enjoy charming towns, beautiful cities and picturesque scenery. You will also find in Sorrento great food and warm and hospitable people. In addition The fact that the distance from Naples is very short, there is no reason not to devote several hours, or even a whole day, to this beautiful place. In fact, if you have a rental car, you can also do star tours here, so you can even devote at least three full days to the area.
The other place worth visiting with the rental car is the town of Amalfi, which is a total of 37 km south of Naples. First of all, on the way to Amalfi you can enjoy a stunning view on the border that is breathtaking. The beauty of the town itself is also spectacular and will You have to slow down to take it in. In addition, here, like any other town in Italy, there is a beautiful church, streets worth wandering on foot and great food.
Beyond the fact that it is worth visiting Amalfi itself, it is also recommended to drive along the road called Costiera Amalfitana. The route is about 50 km long and if you don’t make any stops along the way, it will take you about an hour and a half. What’s more, keep in mind that one of the beautiful things is not only traveling and seeing the lovely sea, but also stopping in the picturesque and beautiful towns along the way, so the route In practice, it will take you longer. Please note: this is a road that is not easy to drive, and certainly not during the tourist seasons. Tourists come here from all over the world, especially in the spring and summer, so the road can be very busy. In addition, the road is smooth, winding and in some parts it is scary. Therefore It is highly recommended to be patient and calm, take your time and expect slow driving. Try to avoid unnecessary detours and simply enjoy the view, because after all, where are you in a hurry? There are quite a few vantage points where you can stop along the way simply to take in the view and take photos, and this is highly recommended.
There’s no arguing that Naples itself is particularly interesting and worth a few days of travel, but if you’re thirsty to get to know southern Italy as deeply as possible – don’t give up the rental car that can be used with you for that. You should follow the driving rules and take into account the fact that in the big cities you will often not have an easy time finding a parking space. Therefore, if you can park your car at the entrance to any city or town you want to visit and move around on foot or by public transportation – this is highly recommended. Also, it is advisable to avoid entering the centers of the ancient cities with the rented car. In most places in Italy it is forbidden to enter the heart of the old city with your car, therefore, if you do not want to receive a surprising report a few months after your trip – park your car outside the city. Keep in mind that especially in touristic places the parking prices can be very expensive, but on the other hand, the comfort offered by the rental car is high and worth the investment. It is true that you can also travel in the Naples area by train, but in this way you will limit yourself to the operating hours of the train and in terms of carrying your luggage it may be a bit challenging. At the end of the day, a rental car is the best option for interesting trips in the Bay of Naples area, and it is even advisable to book it as far in advance as possible, especially if you are traveling during the tourist season.
