Right next to Piazza Tasso, in the heart of Sorrento, is Ristorante Zi’Ntonio. If you are not familiar, you might think that this is another tourist trap with mediocre food at most because of the location. But the truth is very different. This restaurant is also loved by the locals and is considered excellent and high quality.
The atmosphere in the place is unique. Besides the traditional design and the special tiles, the tables are large, the candles are bright, and the feeling is of a pleasant family warmth – which is a very logical and natural thing to expect in this part of Italy.
The Ristorante Zi’Ntonio began its journey in 1960 as a small pizzeria. Since then, she has come a long way. More dishes have been added to the menu, the place has expanded, and it even received a recommendation in the prestigious Michelin guide.
The menu at the restaurant is based on local tradition and the raw materials common in the Campania region. And what do you eat? For an appetizer, you can make stuffed pumpkin flowers. The main course has a special risotto with seafood or slices of beef with porcini mushrooms and potatoes. The restaurant started as a pizzeria, a pizza menu. Is there room left for dessert? Go for a baba or rum (sold here as Sabrina), Neapolitan, or eclairs with chocolate.
The restaurant has tried to adapt to all audiences, and there are options on the menu for vegetarians, vegans, and those sensitive to gluten.
The prices are not low, but you have to remember that this is a 60-year-old restaurant with a mention in the Michelin guide. When you factor that into the equation, it’s a pretty worthwhile experience in the end. The price of the main dish ranges from 15 to 50 euros for a double dish.
Zintonio restaurant is open seven days a week. As in many Italian restaurants, the opening hours are divided here between lunch and dinner. At noon, the place operates until 15:30. At 18:00, the doors open again for dinner until midnight – which makes the area a good option for a late-night meal after a night out or a long day of travel.
